Lyn Cheedy

Artist’s Tribe: Yindjibarndi
Bio:

Lyn is an Yindjibarndi Custodian, YIndjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation Chair, and passionate Artist. She is a daughter of renowned YIndjibarndi Cultural Custodian, Teacher and Elder, Ned Mayurabingu Cheedy, (winner of the 2012 Australian NAIDOC Aboriginal Person of the Year, before he died at the age of 105). Lyn is a highly skilled painter and craftswoman who creates traditional fishing nets and baskets from yalhirri grass, and spun hair ceremonial belts. Even though she only started painting her acrylic works on canvas, weaving and making yarranga marni carved boards 3 years ago, her artworks are highly valued and selected for major Perth-based exhibitions. Lyn’s artworks are intricately constructed, deeply cultural, evolving from her passionate love of her country and always selected by curators for exhibitions.
